CDC Flying Ant
By:Unknown
But this is my own version of it that I've been tying for over 10 years.
Hook: TMC 206BL
Size: 14 ~ 18
Thread: Rust UTC 70 Denier
Abdomen: Fine Rust Dubbing
Wing: Sparse Z-Lon Over CDC Fibers Tied Slightly Longer Than Abdomen and Natural Brown Saddle Hackle
Hackle: Whiting, Brown, Dry Fly Grade.
Thorax: Same As Abdomen But Heavier Dubbing
Legs: Two Black Moose Hairs, Each Side
Head: Fine Rust Dubbing.

Step Tying Instruction
1 Lay thread base to bend.
2 Dub a fine, round bubble for abdomen covering just less than 1/2 shank.
3 Add two each legs of black Moose Hair. Place them on each side in front of abdomen bubble.
4 Lay the sparse Z-Lon over CDC fibers tied slightly longer than abdomen. Tie in, also in front of bubble and tight against it.
5 Add 3-4 turns of Brown hackle. Tie off and trim stub of hackle.
6 Finish with a smaller rust dubbing bubble behind eye.
7 Whip-finish a small neat head.
8 Add head cement to complete.

Fishing Instructions:
Fish this fly any time you see flying ants near the water. Trout will take this offering readily and will work wonders in the back water slews and tight into the outside curves of meandering streams.

Note: In British Columbia, they do not allow for a second fly when fly fishing, only a one-fly rig is allowed.
