Boulder Creek |

Water level low so be stealthy. More fish taking nymphs. All the go-to Boulder Creek patterns working with the most effective rig being a caddis pattern for the top fly with a size 20 PT dropped off. Other recommendations: Ginger Quills, Quill body dry flies. Flash back PT size 18 Pheasant Tails, Red Copper Johns and small stonefly patterns. A variety of beadhead nymphs working as well. |

S. Boulder Creek |

Flow up 60%. Dry/Dropper effective in the shallower runs. Royal Wullf with a Beadhead Prince dropped off effective. Copper Johns, Pheasant Tails or Caddis Pupa. |
|
Big Thompson River |

Flow down to the lowest level of the year. Most fish still caught by nymphing since not a lot of fish looking up. Larva/Pupa imitations always effective. Dry dropper a good rig right now. Hares Ears, Princes, Pheasant Tails, and PMD Barr's Emergers. |

Fishing best in morning and late afternoon. Wet flies producing well. Red and dark olive the best colors. The most productive rigs are a hopper/dropper setup using a #14 Royal PMX or a small royal or red stimulator dropping a #16 Red Thunder, Silver Ice or High Voltage PT. Tan Caddis, small olive stimulators, striped apes and green and tan hoppers are doing extremely well. There are also a few Red Quills about, so don't forget nymphs like Copper Johns and Copperheads. |

No changes here and will be consistent for a while. In town it will be midges and shrimp with no clear standout patterns working. There are caddis here and there and a few other sporadic oddballs north of town. Recommended flies: Solitude Mysis along with Miracles, JuJuBees, UV Emergers or Black Beauties. North of town try Green Stimulators, Wilcox Caddis, San Juan Worms, Green Hare's Ears, or Psycho Princes. |

Fall midges, BWO's, and tricos continuing to hatch. Look for fish rising to BWO's on cloudy afternoons. Suggested patterns: Barr's PMD Emergers, Graphic Caddis, Buckskin Caddis, Thorax PMD's, Silhouette Duns, Snowshoe PMD's, Peacock Caddis, Wilcox A/C Caddis, San Juan Worms, Iron Sallies, and JuJu Bees. |

The Drakes are still out in very good numbers. You can count on fishable drake and flav hatches through the middle of October. Flavs (the smaller #14 Green Drake cousin) are increasing in numbers weekly, though larger #12 Drakes are currently still more abundant. The PMD hatch is also going strong still and will continue to do so for the next few weeks. The fall BWO's are prevalent as well, though look for the fish to focus on the Drakes and PMD's during the midday hatches. Subsurface-wise though, fish are keying in on #20-22 BWO imitations. A surprisingly good number of Mysis Shrimp are spilling out from below the dam and because of that, the Flats in particular are yielding some good numbers of large 16-24" inch fish. Though the Rusty Spinner fall is dimishing, the evening fishing from 6:30-7:30pm is still consistent for those willing to stay out late and chase the risers. |
